Our Visit to the Local Sensory Hub

Our Visit to the Local Sensory Hub

I’ll be honest, some days I’m absolutely buzzing to get out of the house! Sometimes you just need a change of scenery or a fresh new activity to break up the repetitiveness that can set in. If you’re looking for things to do in Glasgow with a baby or toddler, this might just become your new favourite spot! Last week we tried something new: a visit to our local sensory hub, and it was such a great decision! This will be a place we visit regularly.

What is a sensory hub?

If you’ve never been, a sensory hub is a calm, low-stimulation space designed for babies, toddlers, and children to explore safely and at their own pace. Think soft lighting, gentle sounds, textures, lights, mirrors, and movement. It’s not loud or overwhelming. It’s not even busy. It’s just… gentle. And sometimes you just need gentle!

What we loved

Brodie was in his absolute element! He loved playing with the balloons (especially hitting them against his mums’ faces!), he stared at the bubble tubes like they had hypnotic powers and gently laid his hands on every toy he could. It was so nice to watch him explore this new environment in his own preferred way. The rooms had so many different items within, and this means he could visit loads of times before boredom would set in. If you’re exploring family-friendly activities in Glasgow, this is a hidden gem worth checking out.

A space for them, and for us!

Whilst the main attraction is the sensory room, the building itself is huge and has an on-site café. The space is well laid out and means that you don’t feel like you must rush away after the session. We didn’t go to the café this time as Brodie was nearing feeding time, but next time we will explore what they have to offer and plan our timings a bit better!
